We’ve put together some of our favourite places in Düsseldorf to help you make the most of your time in Germany. From Alisha-approved cafés and brunch spots to beautiful walks, shopping and places to explore, there’s a little something for everyone.

The easiest and most affordable way to explore Düsseldorf is by public transport, and the DüsseldorfCard is a great option for visitors. It offers convenient travel around the city, options for families and groups, as well as discounts and even free admission to selected museums and attractions.

Germany’s public transport network also makes it easy to explore other places across North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

For planning your journeys, we recommend using the DB Navigator app. Simply enter where you want to go, and the app will use your location to guide you through the best route, including which trains, trams, buses and connections to take. It makes getting around Germany much easier, even if your German isn’t quite ready yet!

Carlsplatz
A charming market with fresh produce, flowers, food stalls, and plenty to explore. We know the Chaudhry sisters appreciate an aesthetic place, so this one should definitely be on the list — Alisha especially loved the flower market!

Rhine Promenade
One of the most beautiful walks in Düsseldorf, with lovely views along the river and plenty of places to stop along the way.

Altstadt
Düsseldorf’s Old Town, located right by the Rhine Promenade. Perfect for wandering through historic streets and exploring the heart of the city.

Rheinpark Heerdt
A peaceful and spacious park that is perfect for a relaxing walk, especially on a sunny day.

shopping / essentials

Königsallee
Düsseldorf’s famous luxury shopping street, commonly known as the Kö. Even if you are only window-shopping, it is worth a visit.

dm
Germany genuinely has really good drugstores, yes, even better and cheaper than Superdrug! A dangerous place if you enjoy skincare, beauty, snacks, or buying things you definitely did not come in for.

Aldi / Lidl
The Aldi and Lidl supermarkets you most likely already know as we are colonizing the UK with them.

Wildpark Düsseldorf
A lovely deer park surrounded by forest. A peaceful spot to walk around and see the animals.

Botanical Garden
A beautiful and relaxing place to explore, with the added bonus of free entry.

Nordpark &
Japanese Garden
One of Düsseldorf’s prettiest green spaces. The Japanese Garden is especially beautiful and well worth a visit.

Schloss Benrath
A beautiful pink Baroque palace surrounded by picturesque gardens and a large park. It’s perfect for a peaceful walk, beautiful photos and a little escape from the city centre. If you enjoy architecture, nature and aesthetic places, Schloss Benrath is definitely worth a visit! And if the weather is good treat yourself to some good Italian gelato ice cream at the Eiscafe am Schloss

If you love a good café as much as Alisha does, you’re sure to enjoy these!

Café ZEN
One of Alisha’s favourites, especially for a good, creamy coffee. It is also within walking distance of Königsallee.

Coffee at Carlsplatz
A lovely coffee stop right by the Carlsplatz market, perfect to combine with a stroll around the area.

Dream Pottery Café
A fun and creative café experience where you can enjoy a drink while getting a little artistic.

Align Café
A stylish café and a nice spot to relax, catch up, and enjoy a coffee.

Nashe Café
A great choice for breakfast or a light brunch, especially if you love a good avocado toast.

food (the good recommendations)

If you are more like Usman and you care about the food more than just the aesthetics then get a good Döner Kebab, you find them everywhere and you can't go wrong with that!

If I wasn’t Pakistani, I’d probably be Turkish, so I highly recommend trying a proper Turkish breakfast while you’re here!

A popular spot near the Königsallee area, serving modern Kurdish and Middle Eastern-inspired food in a beautiful setting.

Café Nane Kahvaltı
Perhaps not the most aesthetic place on the list, but the food is GOOD, and that is what matters.

And then there are also few other recommendations:

Shawarma City
They have amazing shawarma's but you might have to wait in line for 20 minutes. Take-Out and go and eat at the Düsseldorf Promenade.

IMPORTANT: Do not leave Germany without having Döner Kebab! There is even a Döner Kebab at the Düsseldorf Airport on the lower level where the arrivals are, all the way on the left side when you enter the airport.

Besides remembering that we drive on the right side of the road, you may discover that the German language is another challenge altogether. 

To help you survive your trip, I've put together a few essential phrases. Study them well because there might be a surprise German test during the Walima. No preparation, no mercy.
